Spyware is a computer software that is installed purposely on a personal computer to intercept or take partial control over the user’s interaction with the computer, without the user’s informed consent.
Unlike viruses and worms, spyware does not usually self-replicate. Like many recent viruses, however, spyware exploits infected computers for commercial gain. Typical tactics furthering this goal include delivery of unsolicited pop-up advertisements; theft of personal information (including financial information such as credit card numbers); monitoring of Web-browsing activity for marketing purposes; or routing of HTTP requests to advertising sites.

Manual removal of these types of programs can be very difficult since many of these software programs go to great lengths to hide on a users system. Deleting the offending shareware or spyware program with your uninstall features does not always remove all the adware or spyware from your computer and attempts can often cause system or interference with internet connections.
Many commercial firms have released products designed to remove or block spyware. Most of these programs are are not free, but a free scan version is usually offered, providing real-time protection and scans for spyware, but only the full version is capable of removing spyware.

The best advice is to do your own testing. Since most of them offer a free scan. You can download the software and let it scan your PC, then check the result of the scan and the registration price of the software before deciding on the the one to use.
